Fall is almost here! You’ll want to take advantage of these cooler weekends to get your Prescott home clean and ready for winter. Prescott Maid to Order offers a few suggestions to help you transition into the colder weather.
Clean the whole house
Clean each room from top to bottom. Dust everything: walls, ceilings, baseboards, ceiling fans, blinds, etc. It’s not unusual for dust to collect throughout the summer. Use a vacuum to remove the dust from fabrics like the drapes and upholstery.
Warm up the beds
Newer mattresses generally don’t get flipped over but they should be rotated every season. Take out your heavier winter bed linens, blankets and comforters and give them a wash and dry to make them like new again. Cool fall nights in a wonderful, freshly cleaned, warm winter bed are the best!
Organize the closetsNow’s a great time to go through all the closets to reduce, reuse, and recycle clothes and shoes that no longer fit, and donate those out of style accessories to a good cause. If you don’t have room to exchange your summer clothes for warm winter ones, then rearrange your closet with the summer clothes to one side so that they’re not in the way. And while you’re in the closet look around for other space-robbing items that could be better used by someone else.
Wash the windows
We love clean windows. If the dust, rain, and that mysterious film are hindering your view, go through the entire house and wash all the windows – inside and out. You’ll want to get this done before the winter weather makes it difficult. Don’t forget to wash the screens while you’re at it.
Get the kitchen ready for guests
No family making a big Thanksgiving dinner can keep people out of the kitchen. One of the joys of fall holidays are the guests we entertain. Be ready to relax by getting the hard work done first. Thoroughly deep clean all of the appliances including the small countertop appliances. Don’t forget to neatly organize your dish, food, and pots and pans cabinets and drawers so that you can effortlessly find everything you want and need.
Keep the air healthy
Cold weather means closed windows, so consider using VOC-free or low-VOC cleaners to protect you and your family. The EPA says that indoor environments are two to five times more polluted than the air outside. If you can open your windows during the warmest part of the day, you should.
